Bias, Warriors break rushing records in El Camino's win over Palomar; Scores roundup here
TORRANCE - Sophomore Damonte Bias and No. 10 El Camino College set new single game rushing records in a 45-31 National Southern League victory over visiting Palomar on Saturday night at Murdock Stadium.
Bias erupted for 266 rushing yards on 22 carries to break Delvon Flowers' 27-year old single-game rushing record of 263 set on October 10, 1998.
Bias averaged 12.1 yards a carry and recorded more yards than his previous two career highs (115, 118) combined on Saturday night. He recorded a 57-yard touchdown run and also broke off a 62-yard run and a 54-yard scamper during Saturday's victory.
In addition, the Warriors also set a new program record for most team rushing yards in recorded history as six rushers combined to rack up 469 rushing yards, the most in recorded history. The previous high on record was a 343 rushing yard performance at Santa Monica on Sept. 4, 2021.
Along with Bias, sophomore Jaden Moore ran amok on the Comets' (1-6, 0-4) defense as he set a new career high with 184 rushing yards on 24 carries with two touchdowns. His previous best came against Ventura on Nov. 9, 2024 when he racked up 182 yards on 32 carries.
So far this season, the Warriors have rushed for more than 100 yards in every game and have surpassed the 200-yard mark four times and 300-yard mark twice. They had 310 rushing yards on Sept. 20 against Chaffey, the first time the team eclipsed the 300-yard mark since 2023.
With Saturday's win, the Warriors remained undefeated in National Southern League play and are tied for first place in the league with Saddleback, who are also undefeated at 4-0 with a 6-1 overall record.
Saturday's win also marked the 15th victory over Palomar in 24 meetings dating back to 1993. The 45 points scored were the most against the Comets since 2022 when ECC scored a 52-24 win in Escondido. The game also marked the seventh time the teams have met as conference/league foes with the Warriors now holding a 6-1 record in those contests.
The Warriors will have a big test next Saturday as they travel to Chula Vista to take on No. 4 Southwestern, which suffered its first league loss to No. 15 Riverside City on Saturday evening. The Warriors and Jaguars will kickoff at 6 p.m.
