Avila, Olvera and Santa Rosa cruise past Long Beach City
Bakersfield, Calif. – Santa Rosa Junior College bounced back to take a 9-1, five inning victory over Long Beach City College in the loser's bracket of the 2026 3C2A Softball State Championship Tournament on Friday at Cal State Bakersfield.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mia Avila posted a two-hit, complete-game shutout in the victory and drove in two runs at the plate, helping the Bear Cubs to their first state tournament victory since 1982.
After allowing a run in the top of the first inning, Santa Rosa rattled off nine-unanswered runs. Avila got the scoring going in a three-run first inning with her RBI single. Later in the inning, Angel Amesa slapped a two-run double to right center, driving in the eventual game-winning runs.
Mira Olvera provided a three-run blast in the third inning and before that Niueni Elisara knocked out a two-run shot in the same frame. They clinched the eight-run advantage with another Avila single.
For the Vikings, Mikaela Pacheco hit an RBI single, driving in their lone run of the game in the first inning.

Santa Rosa advances through the loser's bracket and will take on Big 8 foe Cosumnes River at 8 p.m. back at Bakersfield College. The Vikings end their season with a 33-11-1 record.
