Delta Impresses in First Round Win over Long Beach City
Bakersfield, Calif. – The San Joaquin Delta College Mustangs powered their way past Long Beach City College, 9-3, in the final first round game of the 2026 3C2A Softball Championships on Thursday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After zeroes in the first inning, the Mustangs erupted with a four-spot in the second. Brooklin Preece and Daniella Hunter each hit a two-run homer in the inning. Preece's homer came out of the nine spot of the order as the Delta lineup produced from the one through nine spots.
After a stagnant couple of innings, Ella Haugo got Long Beach on the board, ripping the first of her two homers to close the gap to three. Haugo went 3-for-3 at the plate and was a bright spot for the Vikings offense.
Delta got that run back and more in the bottom of the fifth. Elizabeth Avila got the party started with a bases loaded walk. Brooklynn Galloway followed with an RBI single, then Bianca Quintero ripped a double, extending the Delta advantage to 8-1.
The Vikings added a pair of runs on solo shots in the sixth and Delta tacked on one more to round out the evening's scoring.
The Northern California Pitcher of the Year, Elisa Galli, turned in the best pitching performance of the day, striking out seven while allowing just five hits. Plagued by the homer, Galli's stuff was dominant as no other pitcher picked up more than six strikeouts.
