Fresno City College Names Josh Brown, Head Football Coach; David Santesteban, Head Men’s Soccer Coach
Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno City College Athletics Department officially introduced Josh Brown as the Head Football Coach and Dr. David Santesteban as the Head Men's Soccer Coach, holding a press conference outside of the soccer field on Tuesday.
"We are thrilled to welcome Josh Brown and Dr. David Santesteban to Fresno City College Athletics. Both coaches are proven leaders with exceptional experience, strong values, and a passion for mentoring student-athletes," said Dr. Derrick Johnson, Associate Dean of Athletics. FCC President Denise Whisenhunt will also be in attendance to formally welcome the two new coaches to the college.
Josh Brown, who will be the Ram's ninth head football coach, brings over 26 years of collegiate coaching experience with a strong background in defensive systems and a proven record of building disciplined, resilient programs. Last season, he was the Co-Defensive Coordinator at Sacramento State. He has previously served as Defensive Coordinator at Cal Poly (2012–19), with additional coaching stops at McNeese State, UTEP, Hawaiʻi, and Nevada. His core philosophy focuses on Discipline in daily actions, Toughness through mental resilience and Love for team and community. His education includes a B.A. in Sociology from San José State and a M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from Arizona State.
Dr. Santesteban returns to his roots as a FCC Ram, where he played soccer as a student-athlete from 1987–88. His most recent position was as the Director of Athletics and Student-Athlete Success at Reedley College and as a member of the 3C2A Management Council. He holds a 177-66-30 collegiate head coaching record. His past roles include U.S. Soccer Federation Technical Advisor/Youth National Team staff coach and assistant coach at the University of New Mexico (NCAA D-I). His education is extensive and includes a Ph.D. in Sports Administration from the University of New Mexico and a U.S. Soccer Federation "A" Coaching License. He is fluent in Spanish with deep local and international soccer ties.
Since 1948, the FCC Athletic Department has had a long, rich history of success with now, 23 intercollegiate sports teams that include 14 women's and nine men's teams. The appointments of Coaches Brown and Santesteban reinforce the college's ongoing commitment to athletic excellence, community engagement and providing transformative academic and athletic opportunities for student-athletes across the Central Valley.
