Matt Colomes hit a two run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to give GCC a 3-2 won over visiting Oxnard College Tuesday night at Stengel Field. The Vaqs trailed 2-1 entering the ninth inning when Mondo Rodriguez was hit by a pitch setting the stage for the stage for the dramatic homer by Colomes, his second hit of the night.
Starting pitcher Jason Whaley gave Glendale five strong innings to help Glendale improve to 11-4 this season. Relievers Gilbert Hernandez and AJ Jimenez kept Oxnard at bay in the late stages and James Giambalvo got the win and the save after getting two outs in the ninth inning.
A solo homer by Jacob Gribbon gave the Vaqs a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning and he had two hits on the night.
Glendale has a busy week as the host Bakwersfield Wednesday night at 6 pm, plays at Oxnard Thursday at 2 pm and plays at Moorpark Saturday at 1 pm.
