Fresno City's Oliver Germond Earns National Coaching Award

Fresno City College women's soccer head coach, Oliver Germond, has been named Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America for Women's Junior College Division 3. Germond is one of 24 head coaches and four assistant coaches to be recognized by their fellow NSCAA associates for this national award. 

Germond is in his 14th year as head coach at Fresno City College. This year, he led his team to the semifinals of the State Championships ending the season with a 2-1 overtime loss in the semi-finals to eventual winner Cerritos College. Germond's team ended the season as conference champs with an impressive 22-1-2 record. The team earned 18 shutouts in 25 games, They scored a total of 99 goals with only 9 goals scored by their opponents. 

In his 14 years at FCC, Germond has an overall record of 236-60-31, eleven conference titles, eleven conference coach of the year awards, is undefeated in conference play since 2007 and has seen 15 players earn NSCAA all-American honors. 

To be considered for the award, a coach must be a member of NSCAA and have had a successful season. Other considerations for the award include knowledge of the game; the coach's relationship with the players, other coaches, officials and media; team image; conduct on the field; involvement with professional and community organizations and service to the NSCAA 

The award will be presented at the annual NSCAA Awards Banquet on Friday, January 16, 2015 in Philadelphia. 

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America is a non-profit organization with a mission to educate coaches, encourage excellence and serve the soccer community. 

Men's head coach, Eric Solberg, was a regional finalist in the west for the men's Junior College Division 3 award. 

All-Americans Named 
Two Fresno City College women's soccer players were named to the NSCAA Division III All-America Teams. Freshman Alyssa Lugo (Central High) was named First Team All-American and sophomore Maricruz Chapa (Orange Cove High) was named second team All-American.
