LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach City College community and athletic department's hearts weigh heavy today as former Viking Football Head Coach and Athletic Director Larry Reisbig has passed away in Newport Beach with tremendous family support and love.

Reisbig was a staple in many forms for the LBCC athletic department as he wore numerous hats throughout his time as a Viking leader including his time as an athletic director at LBCC from 2003-10.

He began his coaching career as a Viking in 1992 after gaining a wealth of football knowledge with coaching positions at the College of the Canyons, Pasadena City College, and California State University – Long Beach. Reisbig had a plethora of success in 11 years at the helm of the football program as he won 71% of his contests and set the record for most wins as a LBCC Head Coach with 83. He won six Mission Conference Northern Division titles and guided 11 teams to winning campaigns. Nine of his 11 teams had winning seasons as well.

He set playoff records by taking eight teams to Community College Bowl games for a college record of six-consecutive seasons (1993-1998). The flagship year was in 1995 when he led LBCC to a perfect 11-0 record and the college's fifth National Championship by defeating Los Angeles Valley College 59-49 in the Strawberry Bowl.

He was voted Mission Conference Northern Division Coach of the Year on six separate occasions and in 1995 was named the California Community College Region IV Football Coach of the Year. Additionally, the Long Beach Century Club and the Student Sports Magazine honored him as Coach of the Year.

The South Coast Conference Athletic Directors annually select the Best Coach in the Conference from all sports – Reisbig hauled in this prestigious accolade twice during his career. He has been inducted into the Long Beach City College Hall of Champions (2010), the California Junior College Football Coaches Hall of Champions (2006), and the College of the Canyons Hall of Fame (2009).

Reisbig is a native of Los Angeles. He made first team All-City playing football at Van Nuys High School in the late 1950s and college football at Washington State University in the early 1960s.

Coach Reisbig is survived by his loving wife of 58 years of marriage, Patty, his son Mike and daughter Stephanie Anne, with three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
